At ASSISTments, we’re always looking for ways to make teaching and learning math more intuitive, accessible, and engaging. This fall, we’re rolling out three exciting updates designed to streamline the classroom experience for teachers and empower students with tools that make learning math easier and more inclusive.

Here’s what’s new:

Math Keyboard: Making Math Input Effortless

Typing complex math expressions can be frustrating for students, especially when the answer they’re trying to enter doesn’t look the way it does in their heads. That’s why we’re introducing the Math Keyboard, a new feature that allows students to easily enter algebraic and numeric answers in fill-in-the-blank problems.

With a visual keyboard designed for math notation, students can now see exactly how their answers will appear before submitting. No more confusing syntax or struggling to find the right symbols; just clean, clear math expressions.

What teachers should know:

  • Students can now use the math keyboard instead of manually typing complex notations.
  • The keyboard automatically adjusts based on grade level (Elementary, Middle, or High School).
  • Available for fill-in-the-blank problem types.

This update helps students focus on solving problems—not on formatting answers.

My Courses: A New Way to Navigate

One of our biggest changes to date is a fresh new look with the launch of My Courses, a redesigned homepage that helps teachers stay organized and easily access their class data.

Now, when you import your classes, they’ll appear as Class Cards on the My Courses page. Each card includes the class name which brings you directly to your Assignment List for the class. Looking for the assignment report? Just click on the assignment name.

Highlights:

  • A streamlined interface that makes navigating between classes simple.
  • Better organization for quick access to assignments and reports.
  • A modern look and feel that enhances usability.

With My Courses, you’ll spend less time searching and more time focusing on what matters most—supporting your students’ learning.

Read Aloud: Making Math Practice More Accessible Accessibility for Every Student

Learning should be inclusive for all students. Our new Read Aloud feature brings text-to-speech functionality directly into ASSISTments, allowing students to have math problems and related content read aloud to them.

This tool enhances accessibility and supports students with visual impairments, learning differences, or language barriers, ensuring every learner can engage meaningfully with their assignments.

Students simply hover over the play button at the top of a problem to hear the entire question, or highlight specific text to have that portion read aloud.

Why it matters:

  • Promotes equitable access to math content.
  • Supports diverse learning needs.
Helps students stay focused and confident while working independently.
