Built to be accessible for every learner

ASSISTments is committed to making our platform usable by everyone — regardless of ability or the assistive technology they rely on.

Accessibility is a core part of how we build

ASSISTments is committed to ensuring that our site and web applications are accessible and usable to everyone. We design for the margins — students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and those in under-resourced schools — because when we build for the students who face the greatest barriers, we strengthen learning for all.

We follow best practices based on Section 508 federal requirements and the recommendations of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). If you encounter a barrier, please reach out directly to our team — we review every accessibility report and respond promptly: support@assistments.org

Section 508

We follow the Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility Standards authorized by the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board.

W3C / WCAG

We follow the recommendations of the World Wide Web Consortium, implementing WCAG 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 at Levels A and AA.

Ongoing Testing

We test with real assistive technologies and update our platform regularly as new accessibility information becomes available.

Accessibility Standards & Support

Supporting accessible and inclusive experiences through recognized accessibility standards and user-friendly features.

Skip Navigation Link

Every page begins with a "skip navigation" link so screen reader and keyboard users can jump directly to the main content, bypassing repeated navigation menus.

High-Contrast Layout

The site uses a three-column flexible layout with high-contrast dark text on a light background to support users with low vision or reading difficulties.

Meaningful Alt Text

All platform-authored images include descriptive alt text. Long descriptions are provided where appropriate, and we welcome reports of any missing alt text.

Accessible Tables & Links

Data tables include proper row and column header associations. All hyperlinks are written to be meaningful when read in isolation by a screen reader.

Audio & Video Alternatives

When students cannot see or hear hint content, a text-based alternative is available. YouTube videos support automatically-generated closed captions.

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard. Focus order matches the visual reading sequence, and GeoGebra applet users can exit via the Esc key.

Read Aloud (Text-to-Speech)

Students hover a play button at the top of any problem to hear it read aloud, or highlight specific text for partial read-aloud. Supports visual impairments, learning differences, and language barriers. Learn More

Math Keyboard

A visual keyboard for algebraic and numeric input removes formatting barriers in fill-in-the-blank problems. Automatically adapts by grade level (Elementary, Middle, and High School). Learn More
